March Cocktail Class: Spring Sips

March Cocktail Class: Spring Sips

Join our head bartender Arah as she celebrates spring by exploring some bright and briny flavors.

We will start with a drink that is sadly going away with the change of the season. The No Big Dill martini has been a crowd please on our winter menu. This cocktail will touch on the versatile technique of infusing alcohol. Infusions impart new and varied flavors to help add more interest and variety to your spirit selection. This is an olive infused genever gin paired with a dill infused dry vermouth.

And for the warmer days a new libation. A clarified milk punch whiskey sour. This is a fun one where we get to nerd out with some cocktail chemistry. We enhance our Descendant single malt whiskey with a burst of earth and grainy cereal notes from the cereal infused milk. It is then combined with citrus and filtered out leaving behind a bit of the milk proteins to add some extra body to the cocktail. As bright and zippy as a classic sour but also just a wee bit different.

A ticket gets admission to the class and generous samples of all the drinks covered in class. Students also get 20% off our selection of vermouths, bitters, mixers, and barware to help enhance your home bar (spirits excluded by NC State law). Plus recipe cards detailing the drinks, syrups, infusions, and methods covered in class.

STUDY HALL: TRAINING WITH INTENTION

STUDY HALL: TRAINING WITH INTENTION

  • Oak & Grist Distilling Company (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Study Hall at Oak & Grist Distilling is your chance to listen and learn from local experts and scholars. We are bringing specialists from a wide variety of fields to the distillery to speak on what they know best. Come curious, ask questions, sip something good and connect with good humans.

We’ve got two speakers for you this month, Tera Pruett & Luis Baltierrez. Their combined talk will be on Training with Intention.

Together, they’ll break down how to build real, sustainable strength, why chasing fitness trends doesn’t work, and how the body adapts when training is done with intention. The focus is exercise prescription—what to do, why it matters, and how to make it work for real life over the long haul. Nutrition will make a quick cameo, but movement, consistency, community, and real-life application take center stage.

About Tera & Luis

My name is Luis Baltierrez, and for the past 10 years I’ve had the opportunity and blessing to make an impact in people’s lives through fitness and health. I truly believe our bodies were created to move and do great things.

Being a coach is extremely rewarding—it’s exciting, it challenges me, and it’s allowed me to grow in countless ways while giving me the tools to become a better coach, leader, and human. I’ve seen what people are capable of with determination, resilience, and the support of a strong community. Stepping onto the floor, throwing kettlebells, and competing is something special—and it’s an experience I want others to feel too.

Through Caffeine N Fitness, my focus is community—showing up, supporting one another, and celebrating the people who make this space what it is. We’re here to help, guide, and build something bigger together.

I’m Tera Pruett—strength, endurance, and adventure coach with over 20 years of experience and zero interest in quick-fix fitness BS. I coach for the long haul: smart exercise prescription, consistency over perfection, and building strength that supports real life inside the gym and out on the trails.

Connection is at the heart of my coaching. My clients aren’t just people I train—they’re community, chosen family, and humans I’m deeply invested in. This work is about building trust, resilience, and capable bodies that last through seasons of life, not just a few weeks.

Through The Unstoppable Rebel Collective and my work alongside Caffeine N Fitness, I’m here to build strong humans, strong relationships, and a community rooted in movement, adventure, and showing up together.

Study Hall NOTES

First Tuesday of every month. Doors open at 6:00pm and class starts at 6:30pm. Topics will last approximately 45 minutes, with time for Q&A at the end.

Do you or someone you know have a wealth of knowledge you are bursting to share? Please reach out to Brett at bar@oakandgirst.com with your topic of choice and a brief outline.

January 21st, 2026

6:30pm - 8:00PM

Experience whiskey like we do at our quarterly vertical tasting

straight from the barrel warehouse.

At BARREL PROOF Vol. 03 you will get a chance to explore the impact that time has on our whiskey. We will be exploring spirit from 2 year, 4 year, and 6 year casks; controlled for barrel type and char level. Additionally, our founder William will discuss how distillery character is impacted by maturation length; as well as how the unique climate in western North Carolina drives how long we age our spirits. The vertical tasting lasts 1 ½ hours and participants must be 21+

BARREL PROOF is an evolution of our belief in transparency and education. Each experience in this series puts maturation under microscope and gives guests a distiller’s perspective into the nuances of how we age our whiskey. Each volume will explore different aspects of our maturation and how they help shape our American single malt. You may even have an opportunity to try some of our upcoming releases. Your host distiller will also provide tips & tricks to getting the most out of your whiskey.

Can’t make this one? Don’t worry, we are offering this experience quarterly; January 21st, April 15th, July 15th & October 21st.

Please note this will be a land-based clean-up. All volunteers are invited for free food after the clean-up, sponsored by Oak & Grist.

Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeves (and waders if you have them), and bring drinking water, lunch/snacks, and perhaps a change of clothes for afterward in case you get wet or dirty. We will have plenty of trash bags, gloves, safety glasses, and buckets for use, along with some hand tools such as shovels, loppers, hand saws, rakes, etc. However, feel free to bring your own if you would like. We will have our dump trailer there for the removal of collected garbage and recyclables.

Location

The exact location will be emailed to participants closer to the event date. Location is largely based on where the Army Corps of Engineers is working, parking, and other factors. We expect to be in or around Swannanoa, NC.

You’re invited to the after-party

Our friends at Oak & Grist will feed all volunteers and their immediate family members for free at their distillery after the clean-up.

The after-celebration starts around 3:30 pm. Please make sure to RSVP so they can ensure there is enough food for everyone.

Oak & Grist will also be contributing 5% of seasonal cocktail, beer, and wine sales for the day to MountainTrue. So tell your friends that even if they can’t make the clean up, they can still support our efforts by raising a glass for a good cause.

We will explore non-alcoholic spirits, replicating boozy profiles with tea & other pantry ingredients, and creating a house made soda. This is a class that will cover some bartending skills such as making a simple syrup from fresh herbs, mixing a drink to match your desired profile, and most importantly being playful yet intentional in choosing ingredients to craft something uniquely you. All skills that will stay with you on your bartending journey in January and beyond.

A ticket gets admission to the class and a mocktail to sip on (or a cocktail if you aren’t making January dry)

Kicking off the new year with something different. Free Event!

Study Hall at Oak & Grist Distilling is your chance to listen and learn from local experts and scholars. We are bringing specialists from a wide variety of fields to the distillery to speak on what they know best. Grab a drink, sit back, and learn something new.

Our first speaker is Leonora Stefanile and she will be digging into one of her favorite subjects: Flower Gardening in Southern Appalachia

Add beauty to your garden, home, and plate with flower gardening. Learn which plants are easy to grow while providing cut flowers, edible flowers, and year-round color in the garden. Special focus will be given to incorporating native flowers into your garden, to better support pollinators, songbirds, soil vitality, and overall ecosystem health.

About Leonora:

Leonora Stefanile is the manager of the Dr. John Wilson Community Garden in Black Mountain, NC where she and her team of staff and volunteers grow flowers and vegetables for Bounty & Soul's no-cost markets so that all in the community can enjoy the heart-lifting beauty of flowers along with nourishing, fresh produce. She is also the farmer/owner of Hummingbird Waltz Flowers, a small organic flower farm and florist based in Asheville, NC, where she and her team provide fresh and dried cut flower bouquets locally.  Leonora also has a background in native plant landscaping, specializing in native wildflower pollinator gardens in residential settings.

Study Hall NOTES

First Tuesday of every month. Doors open at 6:00pm and class starts at 6:30pm. Topics will last approximately 45 minutes, with time for Q&A at the end.
